Products that help me parent as a wheelchair user
Here's a small compilation of the top items I use, as an independent full time wheelchair user, with 3 kids.
This allows me to change a diaper anywhere, whether it be a lower surface, bed, floor, etc. It's easy to wipe, and very lightweight.
Baby Works - Deluxe Foam Diaper Changing Pad, Easy to Clean, Soft and Comfortable, Safety Strap - Grey, 27 x 16 Inches
Ever notice how many diaper pails have a foot lever? This is easy to use, doesn't require special bags, and helps keep the smell contained. Would also be great as a place to throw out medical supplies, and it can be locked, so little ones, or animals...
Ubbi Steel Odor Locking Diaper Pail, Gray
I love these bags in conjunction with the Ubbi diaper pail (and not just because they're purple)! They are tough, and won't fall apart when you take them out on trash day.
Ubbi Disposable Diaper Pail Plastic Bags, 75 Ct
These gates are fantastic. They can be used inside, or outside, and are great as there's nothing to step over, so no tripping hazards for anyone. As a wheelchair user, I struggled to use other gates, but this one is sturdy, and stays out of the way w...
Bily Retractable Safety Gate Black
Makes unbuckling car seat clips much easier. Great for anyone with a disability that affects dexterity, strength, etc. Can also be used to help children be independent (once old enough to only do so appropriately).
UnbuckleMe Car Seat Buckle Release Tool
I find it much easier to transfer to and from this to my wheelchair, and vice-versa. Also helps protect from pressure injuries, and allows me to play with baby on the floor longer, so various stretches, etc.
Incline Fit Zafu Yoga Meditation Cushion
I use this as soon as soon as baby has head control. It allows me to quickly, and easily secure baby on my lap, and doesn't take up much space, as it stores flat, in its own bag. Has a built-in lap bib, and is great quality. I use it until about 3.5y...
LapBaby - The World's First Hands Free Baby Seat-Aid
I use their wet bag, as it hangs wonderfully from my wheelchair canes (posts that hold the backrest on to the wheelchair). Keeps everything on the outside of the bag dry.
Colibri Canada: Reducing Single Use Plastics one product at ...
The smallest peopod mat fits perfectly on top of my wheelchair cushion, or my lap. If my child is wet from swimming, I don't end up wet if they're sitting on it, and my cushion stays 100% dry.
PeapodMats - Waterproof Bedwetting and Incontinence Mats
This pillow allowed me to safely transport my newborn around the house, because it was strapped around my back. A reminder to always make sure baby's airway is open and clear, and for baby to never to sleep on a nursing pillow. Also kept baby off my ...
Best Latch™ Nursing Pillow
I found myself needing a lightweight diaper bag, and this one has been working really well. I wanted something clean-looking, and easy to wipe. It was something I saved up for, but I know I'll get years of use out of it, as it isn't limited to being ...
New Parent Backpack 17L | Unisex Bags,Purses,Wallets - Lululemon
These really do it all! I wore Align leggings while pregnant, postpartum, and well after baby became a toddler. These are so versatile, and while they stretch, they still retained their shape, even after wearing them in pregnancy. I loved not having ...
The version of Bassinest I used was an older model, this one seems even more useful. It was invaluable to be able to get to baby without bending over, or getting out of bed, but also important to me to be able to move it away from the bed, in order t...
This is the only reason I get to drink hot drinks while they're still hot, or cold drinks while they're cold. lol Great insulating properties, and best of all, they're completely leakproof! Super important as a wheelchair user. The Nav fits nicely in...
BruMate - Insulated Tumblers, Coolers, and More
It was so helpful to be able to wear my newborn, while doing things around the house, or when out. Loved that nothing was touching my c-section site, and it felt soft, & easy to figure out. I soaked up all the newborn snuggles I could with this. ...
This is the absolute best stroller for me, as a wheelchair user. I can fold, and unfold it myself, it has a hand brake, and the push handle is completely adjustable, so it's comfortable to push. It has always performed well in the snow, slush, and on...
swift™ the Best Compact All-Terrain Buggy
I’ve had different feeding journeys with each of my kids, and while formula-feeding, these little pods were great. By having them pre-portioned, I could just pour it in, whether while out of the house, at home and trying to play with my older child, ...
Tommee Tippee Formula Dispensers, 6 Count.ca
Many parents take countless pictures everyday, I find using a pop socket makes it easier for me to hold my phone, particularly to take pictures. Such a variety to choose from; I like the pop socket built-in to the phone case, but you can also get add...
Cases | PopSockets®
While this was an investment, I use mine weekly, and it's been indispensable for cleaning under the table, high chair, as well as cleaning the floor with everything my wheelchair tracks in. I suggest watching for sales, I was able to get mine with a ...
Tineco FLOOR ONE S5 | Smart Wet/Dry Vacuum Cleaner
If I get diaper cream on my hands, it's not easy to get it completely off, until I can wash my hands at a sink, but to get to a sink, I have to use my push rims, risking getting cream on there. This has been really handy, particularly when I'm out, a...
