Reading is important to me. There are so many wonderful books yet undiscovered, and THAT is why the number of ‘books to read’ far exceeds ‘books read’. My book recommendations list includes multiple genres: fiction, non-fiction, adventure, mystery, c...
One of the most memorable books I have read in a long time. While the book is geared towards children, it speaks volumes to adults! [Amazon.com]
What Do You Do with an Idea?
This is, by far, the FUNNIEST book to read to little children. Especially, little grandsons. I purchased this book and the matching game for his birthday. LOL I could hardly get through the story without breaking into laughter. Now, whenever I visit,... And, I reply, “Of course we can!”
I Need a New Butt!
Bill Browder's, ‘Red Notice’ and ‘Freezing Order’, are two books that read like spy fiction novels… BUT, they are not! By reading them, I gained some insight into multiple areas of politics, espionage, positional power, life and death.
Red Notice: High Finance, Murder, and Justice
Of all the books I have read, this is the ONLY book that I have stated, “Everyone on the entire planet should read this book!” The following is copied from Goodreads: “On the last day of summer, an ordinary Utah college student named Reggie Shaw fata...
A Deadly Wandering: A Mystery, Landmark Investigation
Bill Browder's, ‘Red Notice’ and ‘Freezing Order’, are two books that read like spy fiction novels… BUT, they are not! By reading them, I gained some insight into multiple areas of politics, espionage, positional power, life and death.
Freezing Order: A True Story of Money Laundering
This fast paced story line kept me intrigued from the initial pages until the end. Just when I thought I had figured everything out, the author pivoted, and another tidbit of information, about the main character, was revealed. Not many books keep me so engaged that I don't want to put it down. This one is on that list! LOL
First Lie Wins: Reese's Book Club Pick (eBook)
I am a big fan of James Rollins. “… [He] is an American veterinarian and writer of action-adventure/thriller, mystery, and techno-thriller novels who gave up his veterinary practice in Sacramento, California to be a full-time author.” [source: Wikipe... But, more specifically these novels about war dogs and their handlers are masterpieces, in my opinion. The animals are real and the story behind both the author's reason for writing about them and the dogs themselves is fascinating, to say the least. [I start with the Author's Notes at the back of the book before getting anywhere near the first page of the novel! They are enlightening and get you prepared for what you are about to experience.}
I enjoy all of Rollins's mystery, action, adventure, and techno-thrillers. I hope that he continues with the war dog series. They are such fascinating reads.
War Hawk: A Tucker Wayne Novel - Books
Scott Young's Wall Street Journal Bestseller, Ultralearning was a must read for me. As a life-long learner, I discovered ways to: expand my knowledge base, learn better, and how to break old routines that weren't working. I loved it so much, that I signed up for the course, The Rapid Learner. I continue to learn.
UPDATE: 2024-05: I just received his most recent publication: Get Better at Anything. I have included the book in the list. I am so excited to read it.
Ultralearning: Master Hard Skills, Outsmart...
This was my first time reading a novel by Patricia Cornwell. I really enjoyed the turns, twists, and how the author moved the story forward; until, I was about 20 pages from the end and still wondering, “Are we any closer to finding the bad guy?” There wasn't much space left to introduce new characters and the... And then it happened. I found the ending abrupt. The author had to hurry and provide the reader with the ‘rest of the story’. You know, those little details that you didn't know you didn't know. I will try another novel by this author and then make a...
Patricia Cornwell - All That Remains
What an entertaining and whimsical collection of board books by Sandra Boynton. I read many of these favorites to my kids when they were young and, now, continue to share the funny rhymes and rhythms with their children. The best experiences I have are when I can recite the “A to Z” book for memory, when my little grandson quickly turns the pages before I've had a chance to finish the previous page! It's a good thing that I read this book decades ago and committed it to memory! LOL Other favorites are, “But Not the Hippopotamus”, “Opposites”, and “Moo, Baa, La, La, La”.
Boynton Board Books Set - Greatest Hits Collection
I learned about this author and her “Hairy MacLary” book while traveling in Australia. While the author is from New Zealand, it's still the same area of the globe! This is just a too cute book! So, I bought the board book. I read the story so many times to my grandson, that we were able to do a shared reading of this book, when he was 2 years old. LOL. We made a recording of it! And then, a funny thing happened...
Hairy MacLary from Donaldson's Dairy
Hands down, this is on my TO READ list. I had been aware of the CRISPR technology, but not really done a deep dive. So, when Jennifer Doudna's book came out, I bought it. Then, I noticed how some of the letters in the title were yellow. Now THAT made me ask the questions, “Why?”. C A T G stand for cystine, adenine, thymine and guanine. These are the four bases in DNA. Here is an excerpt from Amazon.com: “Not since the atomic bomb has a technology so alarmed its inventors that they warned the world about its use. That is, until 2015, when biologist Jennifer Doudna called for a worldwide moratorium on the use of the gene-editing tool CRISPR—a revolu...
A Crack In Creation: Gene Editing
This is another book on my TO READ list as it relates to Jennifer Doudna, the co-recipient of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry “for their breakthrough research on CRISPR technology.”
The Code Breaker: Jennifer Doudna, Gene Editing
I have always been fascinated by Leonardo da Vinci. His life was so varied and his expertise in many areas is an interesting study. Amazon.com quotes: “…He [Isaacson] shows how Leonardo’s genius was based on skills we can improve in ourselves, such as passionate curiosity, careful observation, and an imagination so playful that it flirted with fantasy…” And, curiosity is something that we must continue to nurture in ourselves and our children.
Leonardo da Vinci
What better way to learn about great scientists than from Isaacson's book on Einstein. I am fascinated by Science and learned during a trip to Poland, that he had met Marie Curie, a two time Nobel Prize winner. Excited to start reading this book.
Einstein: His Life and Universe
This is not the first book that I have purchased from this author, Scott Young. I was soooooooo excited to get the email notification from Amazon that my book had been delivered to my location of choice (I am not always home, so I selected a location near by). It took me less than 2 hours from receipt of the email to pick up!
When I read the testimonials by other authors on the back jacket cover there are so many other books listed that those books will NOW be added to my TO READ collection (aka: anti-library). It's a good thing that I love to read, because the list is longer than than a trip around the world. LOL Enjoy!
